Copper peptides: why they go on their own

Frosted Lumyra Lab dropper beside a soft copper serum droplet

Copper peptides are one of the more interesting ingredients in skin renewal, and one of the most misused, because almost nobody explains the most important rule: they go on their own.

What they do

GHK-Cu is a peptide found naturally in the body, and its presence declines with age. Applied topically it supports collagen production and has a notable calming effect, which over consistent use can read as firmer, calmer skin.

Why they go on their own

Copper is reactive. Combined with vitamin C, exfoliating acids or retinol in the same application, it can oxidize those ingredients and reduce their effectiveness, or cause unnecessary irritation. It is not that copper is bad alongside them. It is that they compete chemically.

  • Do not combine on the same night with vitamin C, exfoliating acids or retinol
  • Pairs well with calming ingredients such as amino acids and panthenol
  • Works best as its own dedicated night within a weekly routine, rather than as a daily step

The honest conclusion

Copper peptides are not difficult to use. They need their own space in a routine. Give them a night without competition and they can do their work without conflict.

Copper peptides are not part of our current collection. They are under consideration for a future Lumyra Lab line.
